Purpose and Accountability

This is a call for external existing Assistant Principals and Principals who are interested in school leadership opportunities with the Calgary Board of Education. Due to the size and complexities of this role, successful candidates will be appointed to an Assistant Principal role, with the possibility of being a part of our Principal Candidate Pool for future principal positions. *Exceptions for appointment to principal positions may be considered.

Reporting to the Principal, the Assistant Principal is responsible for cooperating with the Principal in all matters concerning the organization and operation of the school. The Assistant Principal supports the Principal in their legislated responsibility and accountability for optimizing student learning while meeting the obligations and responsibilities of the Education Act and all other appropriate statutes, in addition to policies, regulations, and procedures of the Board.

This position is accountable for:
• keeping their principal informed on any matters that affect the school program;
• executing all responsibilities delegated by the principal;
• acting as the principal’s representative in the school and community;
• assuming the responsibilities of principal during their principal’s absence;
• assuming roles as defined and assigned in consultation with their school principal.

Eligibility
• a valid Alberta Professional Teaching Certificate
• the completion of a master’s degree in a related discipline from an accredited institution
• the completion or eligible to complete the Leadership Quality Standard certification
• minimum requirements of seven years teaching experience and five years combined administration experiences as an Assistant Principal and/or Principal
• the Board reserves the right to appoint individuals with equivalent credentials to those stated

• a copy of your valid Alberta Permanent Teaching Certificate or Teaching Certificate from your current province

Note: Leadership and teaching evaluations as well as reference letters must be signed and on institution letterhead where applicable. Unsigned letters and evaluations will not be accepted.
