Job Title: Food and Beverage Manager
Location: Kandy, Sri Lanka
Employment Type: Full-time | On-site
Industry: Hospitality / Hotels / Restaurants / Tourism
About the Role
We are seeking a committed and experienced Food and Beverage Manager to oversee the operations of our food and beverage outlets in Kandy. This is a role that requires more than theory—it demands presence, discipline, and the ability to maintain consistent standards in a live, fast-moving environment.
You will be responsible for supervising daily service operations, managing staff, working closely with the kitchen, and making sure guests have a dependable and high-quality dining experience. Your work will involve monitoring costs, handling feedback, and guiding the team towards consistent performance.
This position is suited for someone who knows the value of hands-on management. If you are the kind of person who walks the floor, talks to guests, and keeps the team focused during service hours, we would like to hear from you.
Key Responsibilities
Operations Management
-
Supervise the daily food and beverage operations, including restaurant, bar, room service, and events.
-
Maintain service quality across all touchpoints—from greeting to billing.
-
Ensure all areas comply with safety, hygiene, and local health regulations.
-
Coordinate with the kitchen to ensure proper food flow and service timing.
Team Management
-
Lead, schedule, and support the service staff including waiters, bartenders, stewards, and supervisors.
-
Conduct training on service standards, safety, and handling guest concerns.
-
Monitor staff performance and provide regular, honest feedback.
Customer Experience
-
Personally engage with guests to understand their needs and gather feedback.
-
Resolve guest complaints on the spot when possible, or escalate thoughtfully if required.
-
Work with the team to maintain a courteous and attentive service culture.
Inventory and Cost Control
-
Oversee the stock levels of beverages, linen, crockery, and other consumables.
-
Maintain daily reports on usage, waste, and consumption.
-
Control pilferage and ensure procurement is aligned with budgeted targets.
Event Coordination
-
Liaise with clients and internal teams for functions, private dinners, and conferences.
-
Plan seating, menu options, service flow, and staff allocation for smooth execution.
-
Supervise service during the event to ensure all client expectations are met.
Menu and Product Input
-
Provide feedback to chefs and procurement teams on customer preferences and sales trends.
-
Suggest practical adjustments to menu items, portion sizes, and pricing based on local demand and supply.
Required Qualifications and Experience
-
Diploma or Degree in Hospitality Management or a related field.
-
Minimum 3–5 years of experience in food and beverage operations, with at least 1 year in a supervisory or managerial capacity.
-
Sound knowledge of restaurant service, bar operations, and catering logistics.
-
Understanding of basic food safety and hygiene standards in Sri Lanka.
-
Familiarity with inventory software or basic POS systems.
-
Strong spoken and written communication in English and Sinhala. Tamil is an added advantage.
Essential Personal Qualities
-
Hands-on leader: You should be visible during operations, not just in an office.
-
Reliable and calm: Capable of maintaining composure when things get busy or go off-plan.
-
Disciplined with time and routines: Understands the importance of prep work, staff punctuality, and daily checklists.
-
Fair and firm: Can correct staff errors without favoritism or drama.
-
Locally grounded: Has an understanding of regional tastes, guest expectations, and service standards relevant to Kandy and its mix of local and foreign visitors.
Work Environment
You will work on-site at our location in Kandy. This is a full-time position that involves early morning, evening, and occasional weekend shifts based on restaurant hours and event schedules.
The work is demanding but consistent. You’ll be on your feet for long hours, handling service issues, staff coordination, and customer engagement. The kitchen, restaurant, and bar teams will depend on your guidance to operate smoothly.
If you are someone who enjoys structure, sees value in building a routine, and wants to manage a team that takes pride in doing the job properly, this role fits well.
What You’ll Gain
This is a role where performance has visible impact. You’ll see the outcome of your planning every day in the service delivered, the feedback from guests, and the attitude of your team.
You will:
-
Learn how to lead a service team with consistency.
-
Develop practical experience balancing customer service with cost control.
-
Gain exposure to menu design, food costing, and operational budgeting.
-
Build experience in event-based service and client-facing hospitality.
-
Strengthen your people management and communication skills.
For those interested in long-term growth within hospitality, this is a solid foundation for moving into hotel operations, banquet management, or multi-outlet F&B management.
Remuneration and Benefits
-
Competitive salary based on experience and qualifications.
-
Meals on duty and staff transport where applicable.
-
Attendance and performance incentives.
-
Annual bonus and service charge (where applicable).
-
Training and development opportunities through structured programs.
-
A professional and respectful work environment.
Application Process
If this sounds like a position that suits your experience and mindset, we invite you to apply. Please send:
-
Your CV (maximum 2 pages)
-
A short cover note telling us why this role interests you and how your experience fits
Shortlisted candidates will be contacted for an interview and a walk-through of our F&B outlets.
Final Note
In hospitality, every detail matters. The way a glass is placed, how a waiter greets a guest, how fast the table is cleared—these are not small things. They define whether a guest returns or not.
We are not looking for a flashy resume or promises. We are looking for someone who will take ownership of the daily service, show up consistently, and build a team that takes pride in doing things properly.
If you understand what it takes to run a clean, orderly, and respectful service environment—and you know how to lead by example—you may be the right fit for this position.
