As the Supervisor, Operations and Maintenance, you will ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient delivery of potable water to residents of Calgary and regional customers. This role provides operational leadership and oversight of daily maintenance activities within the drinking water distribution system, ensuring full compliance with Alberta Environment & Protected Areas regulations, occupational health and safety legislation, and internal standards. Leading a team of unionized employees, you will ensure work is performed in accordance with collective agreements, safety protocols, and service expectations. Primary duties include:
• Direct the activities of staff during both emergency and scheduled work including planning, scheduling, supervising and coordinating staff, tools, equipment, and materials.
• Provide guidance related to worksite safety, job approach, regulatory compliance and general quality assurance and participate in special projects as directed by the Leader and business needs.
• Participate in the creation of annual and long-term business plans which support current and future operations that are financially sustainable and in line with Council directives.
• Establish and implement operational business plan objectives, strategies, and actions.
• Develop, track, and report on related performance measures through the business planning mechanisms.
• Respond promptly to operational challenges within the water distribution system, ensuring minimal disruption and swift resolution.
Qualifications
• A Level IV Water Distribution Certification and at least 8 years of relevant experience; OR
• A High School diploma or equivalent (e.g., GED or CAEC [Canadian Adult Education Certificate]) and Level II Water Distribution Certification and at least 10 years of experience; OR
• A completed 2-year diploma and at least 10 years of related industry experience; OR
• A Level III Water Distribution Certification and at least 8 years of experience in a supervisory role.
• Equivalent combinations of experience and education may be considered.
• If a level IV Water Distribution Certification has not already been achieved, applicants must have the ability to obtain this level within a defined development plan after starting in the position.
• A valid class 5 driver’s license and the use of a personal vehicle for business use is required.
• You have exceptional communication skills accompanied by strong customer focus.
• You also have well-developed problem-solving abilities and analytical skills.

Pre-employment Drug Test: An offer of employment for this position will be conditional on an applicant passing a pre-employment drug test. This test assesses for use of drugs including cannabis. Failure to pass a pre-employment drug test may prevent an applicant from being hired into any safety sensitive position for a period of up to twelve months.

work week earning 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.
