Position Overview
We are hiring for multiple roles within our Kitchen Department, including:

Key Responsibilities
While responsibilities vary slightly by position, all kitchen staff are expected to contribute to delivering high-quality, hygienic, and flavorful food to guests. Responsibilities may include:
For All Kitchen Roles

Assist with food preparation and presentation in accordance with hotel standards.

Maintain hygiene, cleanliness, and safety in all kitchen areas.

Follow directions from the Head Chef and Sous Chef.

Ensure food is stored and handled properly to maintain freshness and minimize waste.

Adhere to kitchen protocols, recipes, and portion control guidelines.
-
Support fellow team members in creating a smooth kitchen workflow.
Additional Duties by Role
Trainee Chef

Learn basic culinary techniques, safety procedures, and equipment handling.

Observe and assist senior chefs in day-to-day kitchen operations.

Develop knowledge of menu items and ingredients.
Commis III
-
Perform basic food prep duties under supervision (e.g., chopping, peeling, marinating).

Assist senior commis and chefs during service.
-
Handle simple cooking tasks such as soups, salads, and garnishes.
Commis II
-
Execute cooking techniques independently for assigned food categories (e.g., appetizers, sides).

Ensure ingredients are prepped and available for service.
-
Contribute to the preparation of à la carte and buffet menus.
Commis I

Take responsibility for key sections of the kitchen (e.g., hot or cold kitchen).

Ensure consistent preparation, taste, and presentation of dishes.

Assist in training junior kitchen staff and maintain kitchen order during service times.
Required Qualifications and Experience

Minimum 2 years of experience in a star-class hotel or boutique property is required (Commis roles).

Candidates with culinary diplomas or vocational training in cookery are preferred.

Freshers or culinary students are welcome to apply for the Trainee Chef position.

Strong understanding of food safety and hygiene standards.
-
Ability to work under pressure and adapt to varying workloads during busy service periods.

Team-oriented, respectful, and proactive attitude in the kitchen.
Location Preference
Candidates from the Kandy area or surrounding Central Province locations will be given priority, as Shady Hills is based in Hunnasgiriya and accessible via regional routes.
