Role Overview

As Legal Counsel – Leaf, you will be based in Kandy and act as a key legal advisor, ensuring full compliance with local laws and BAT’s internal policies. This role involves litigation support, contract and IP management, and partnering closely with cross-functional teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide legal advice and ensure compliance with applicable laws and internal policies

• Manage litigation matters and guide the business on risks and outcomes

• Oversee contract management, licensing, and intellectual property portfolios

• Support regulatory compliance for tobacco manufacturing and sales

• Assist Senior Legal Counsel in resolving legal issues affecting the organization

• Manage and coordinate with external legal counsel

• Keep internal stakeholders informed of legal developments

• Partner with business units to enable informed decision-making

Requirements

• LLB or equivalent legal qualification

• 2–3 years of experience in litigation and legal advisory work

• Strong skills in legal drafting, negotiation, and research

• Proficient in Sri Lankan legal and regulatory frameworks

• Strong interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving abilities

• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities

• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
